UNION PICNIC DAY
Monday 6 December 1999 is the Building Industry Union Picnic Day referred to in various trades and wages awards. Some of these awards contain provisions that employers may require their employees to produce evidence (butts of union picnic tickets) of their employees' attendance at the picnic before payment of the day is approved. The provisions of the award clauses may be applied at the Chief Executive Officer's own discretion.
To ensure that non unionists are not discriminated against in this matter, before requiring the production of the picnic ticket agencies should first ensure that picnic tickets are available for purchase by all eligible employees regardless of union membership.
