C2000-15 Public Sector Nurses Awards - Variations

Detailed Outline

On 6 March 2000 the NSW Industrial Relations Commission varied a number of public sector awards covering Nurses with the consent of the Nurses' Association and the Public Sector Management Office, as well as other employer parties. The variations provide for increases to remuneration in the following awards:

Nurses' (Department of Community Services) Interim (State) Award;
Crown Employees (Nurses, Department of Juvenile Justice) Award;
Workcover NSW Occupational Health Nurses' Award;
Crown Employees (Police Service of New South Wales (Nurses)) Award;
Corrections Health Service Nurses' (Interim) (State) Award;
Public Hospital Nurses' (State) Award;
Health Administration Corporation and Department of Health,
Nurses (State) Award; and
Nurses' Air Ambulance (State) Award.

Salaries and certain allowances under these awards, are to be increased by two per cent (2%) with effect from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 1 January 2000, and by a further increase of two per cent (2%) with effect from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after the 1 January 2001.

The Nurses' Association along with Labor Council, the Public Service Association and Professional Officers Association Amalgamated Union of NSW and the Health and Research Employees' Association of NSW entered into the Memorandum of Understanding with the Government which reflects the Government's wages strategy. The Nurses' Association and the other unions have given a commitment to progress priority issues for continued reform in the NSW public sector.

The variations to the Nurses' (Department of Community Services) Interim (State) Award, Crown Employees (Nurses, Department of Juvenile Justice) Award and Workcover NSW Occupational Health Nurses' Award are attached for implementation.

You are referred to the Memorandum of Understanding dated 2 March 2000 and the Treasurer's letter to Ministers of 21 January 2000, concerning funding and reporting arrangements on the priority issues for continued reform in the NSW public sector.
