The Premier's Department has published a new document entitled Reforming the Public Sector which sets out the major reforms to the public sector which have been undertaken in recent years by the NSW Government.
The document provides a clear statement of the Government's objectives in introducing reforms to make the NSW public sector the most modern, responsive and technologically advanced service provider in Australia. It also highlights the fact that these reforms and service delivery improvements have been undertaken against a backdrop of fiscal responsibility.
The reforms are classified under five headings:
- Better value for money
- More responsive services
- Better integrated services
- Better use of technology
- Better partnerships with the community.
Reforming the Public Sector document was compiled with the assistance of many agencies and Ministerial offices and provides up to date information about a number of significant reforms. It also includes a number of case studies which illustrate the positive impact of these reforms on service delivery and agency efficiency.
I encourage all Ministers and Chief Executive Officers to examine Reforming the Public Sector and to give consideration to ways in which the objectives it sets out can be furthered within your portfolio or agency.
