Detailed Outline
I am pleased to enclose a revised version of the brochure entitled 'What are Common Selection Criteria? Essential information for NSW Government job applicants'. [updated August 2002]
The brochure provides information about the four selection criteria common to all public sector jobs - a knowledge and understanding of equal employment opportunity; ethical practice; ethnic affairs priorities statements; and occupational health and safety as they relate to the job.
It was produced by Premier's Department and the Office of the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment (ODEOPE), with advice from the Independent Commission Against Corruption, the Community Relations Commission and WorkCover NSW.
As stated in the brochure, some specialised jobs (eg EEO Coordinators, OHS Officers, Human Resource Managers) require a deeper level of understanding of one or more of these common criteria. While the common selection criteria are automatically included in job advertisements, job-specific criteria explaining the particular skills, knowledge or experience required should also be included where needed.
Both the common selection criteria brochure and the brochure entitled 'Looking for Work in the NSW government: Information for our Diverse Community' should be included in all information packages for public sector job vacancies. [updated August 2002]
As the information contained in these brochures is also provided on the 'jobs.nsw' website, (http://www.jobs.nsw.gov.au/), agencies should not include it in electronic information packages linked to that site.
Copies of both brochures may be ordered on the enclosed form. Enquiries should be directed to Caroline Davidson, Public Sector Management Office, on 9228 3563 or email [email protected]
