About

I am pleased to announce the release of "Taking Safety Seriously 2002: A Systematic Approach to Managing Workplace Risks in NSW Public Sector Policy and Guidelines 2nd edition". The updated policy and guidelines builds on the original edition of 1999 by providing more specific information about ways to improve health, safety and injury management in the NSW public sector. The document also incorporates the new legislative framework for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and worker's compensation in NSW. A copy of the policy is enclosed for your agency. An electronic copy in PDF format is also available on the Premier's Department Website.

To assist agencies in implementing the policy and guidelines, the Premier's Department is co-ordinating a half day seminar on 6 November 2002 at the Parliament House Theatrette. The launch will include guest speakers from WorkCover, the Treasury Managed Fund and government agencies who have implemented good quality practices in response to occupational health and safety challenges. Appropriate agency representatives are invited to attend the launch. Because of space limitation, a recommended quota per agency is suggested on the attached nomination form.

Further information regarding the update of the whole of government policy and the seminar can be obtained by contacting Cathy Nolan, Review and Reform Division, NSW Premier's Department on (02) 9228 3361.
