Detailed Outline
The Office of the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment is again offering a Traineeship Program for People with a Disability. The Traineeship Program offers fully funded wages and allowances and other incentives to participating agencies with the objectives of increasing the job outcomes for people with a disability and increasing their level of representation in the Public Sector workforce.
Employees with a disability also contribute to the effectiveness of service delivery to our diverse communities.
This exciting initiative is sponsored by the Office of the Public Trustee, the Motor Accidents Authority, and the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Workplace Relations, the Vocation Education and Training Board, and by the Office of the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment. In 2001, 39 Trainees recommended under this program were successful.
The NSW Department of Education and Training will administer the Program. Traineeships also target Aboriginal people with a disability.
At the end of the traineeship, the host employer gains a new employee who is specifically trained and capable of meeting its workforce requirements and, the trainee will have a nationally accredited qualification. Graduate Trainees are appointed to a permanent position within the host employer.
I ask you to nominate one or more positions to be filled by a Trainee. To participate your agency should lodge its nominated position(s) with the Industry Programs unit in the Department of Education and Training no later than 30 November, 2002. An application form is included in the Fairways newsletter attached assist your staff (for further information go to www.eeo.nsw.gov.au under People with a Disability > Traineeships)
Further Guidelines and Nomination/Application forms can be obtained from the Program Manager, Dennis McDermott, on (02) 9266 8405, or email:[email protected] .
I strongly urge Chief Executives to encourage their staff to participate in this exciting new initiative.
