Detailed Outline
(NAIDOC Week 6-12 July 2003)
Theme: 'Our Children Our Future'
Agencies are reminded that NAIDOC Week 2003 is to be celebrated from July 6-12 2003, with Friday 11 July 2003 proclaimed as National Aboriginal and Islander Day. This years NAIDOC theme is 'Our Children Our Future'. This theme highlights the importance of ensuring our children have the right to life, good health, protection, education, and an adequate standard of living.
Agencies are encouraged to support and release Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander staff to participate in NAIDOC celebrations, as set out in 6-19.14.16 of the NSW Government Personnel Handbook.
'All employees who identify as Aborigines or Torres Strait Islander people may be granted up to one day special purpose leave so that they may participate in National Aboriginal and Islander Day celebrations'.
NAIDOC Week celebrations continue to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples the opportunity to celebrate their culture and heritage with the wider Australian community.
In the spirit of reconciliation all agencies are encouraged to support staff to participate and engage in NAIDOC Week events.
As a mark of respect and support agencies are encouraged to fly Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the NSW Flag on their buildings.
All enquires regarding NAIDOC Week or the special leave entitlements should be directed to Ms Nicole Auciello on 9228-5627.
