The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is the NSW Government's roads supplier and its service delivery arm, RTA Operations, operates on a commercial basis.

The RTA is also a contractor and adviser to NSW public sector agencies for road related projects.

Public sector agencies seeking to engage the RTA for road-related construction, maintenance, professional and other services are advised that there are no tendering policies or legal requirements preventing them directly approaching the RTA for work relating to government assets.

Agencies must, however, satisfy the requirement to ensure value-for-money on all projects.

Moreover, agencies planning capital works projects which involve road construction, (eg entrances off major roads and road relocations) should consult with the RTA with regard to the scope of the planned road works and the cost estimates to be included in their business case.
