I am pleased to announce the release of two training products on merit selection techniques. The first is entitled Merit Selection in the NSW Public Sector: A training program for those involved in recruitment, which support the Recruit and Select Personnel unit of competency (BSBHR4202) of the Business Services Training Package (BSB01). The program is essentially designed for trainers to provide group training on merit selection, in a modular format, which provides flexibility in using this resource. The materials include handout notes and guidance on assessing participants performance during training.

Each agency will be receiving one free copy. Additional copies of the publication will cost $250 and can be obtained by calling Troy King on (02) 9248-3555 or emailing [email protected].

The second product is an electronic Merit Selection Techniques Refresher Training program and is available on the website www.eeo.nsw.gov.au. This is self paced, online training for individuals in 10 modules for those who wish to update their skills in this area.

Both these training products are designed to complement the previously issued booklet Merit selection guide for NSW Public Sector panels - picking the best person for the job.

The effective selection and recruitment of staff is a key element in the success of any organisation. These products provide the necessary knowledge and skill enhancement to assist in selecting the most meritorious applicant.
