Agencies are reminded that NAIDOC Week 2004 is to be celebrated from July 4-11 2004, with Friday 9 July 2004 proclaimed as National Aboriginal and Islander Day.
This years NAIDOC theme is "Self Determination, Our Community, Our Future, Our Responsibility".
Agencies are encouraged to support and release Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to participate in NAIDOC celebrations, as set out in 6-19.14.16 of the NSW Government Personnel Handbook.
"All employees who identify as Aborigines or Torres Strait Islander staff
may be granted up to one day special purpose leave so that they may participate in National Aboriginal and Islander Day celebrations"
As a mark of respect and support, agencies are encouraged to fly Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the NSW Flag on their buildings.
