C2005-20 Launch of Sector-Wide Career Development Website

Detailed Outline

A new website yourcareer.nsw (www.yourcareer.nsw.gov.au) was launched on 17 March 2005 by the Director-General, Premier's Department.

The yourcareer.nsw website is one component of an Employer of Choice strategy for the NSW public sector which is being developed by Premier's Department in consultation with agencies and the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA).

This site provides sector-wide information on employment and some information on career opportunities for existing and prospective employees. It is envisaged that this website will help to underpin future promotion of career opportunities in the NSW public sector. Enhancements to the site will be based upon user feedback and a review of best practice. Please find attached a brochure promoting the yourcareer.nsw website.

The intention is that over time the website will assist sector-wide strategies aimed at:

  • badging the NSW public sector as an exciting place for a career
  • helping job seekers to think strategically about enhancing their careers
  • emphasising the benefits of working for the public sector, and
  • showcasing where the public sector leads the way.

A promotional brochure, yourcareer.nsw is attached

A related component of the Employer of Choice strategy will be participation by the Public Employment Office in the forthcoming NSW Careers and Employment Expo which is being held at Darling Harbour Convention Centre on 17 and 18 June 2005. The Expo provides an opportunity for Premier's Department to promote the NSW public sector as an employer of choice using the yourcareer.nsw website theme, namely 'Build Your Career, Make a Difference'. This approach is intended to complement individual agencies' efforts. The Expo will also provide an opportunity to promote the yourcareer.nsw website.

In relation to the website, agencies are encouraged to provide feedback on the format and information provided, and to suggest additional profiles of the careers of public servants. Agencies are also invited to utilise the website as an opportunity to promote their own career development opportunities and recruitment initiatives.

Agencies are further invited to provide the PEO with promotional materials on their recruitment initiatives for distribution at the Expo.

Enquiries and feedback should be directed to Judith Withers, Principal Project Manager, Public Employment Office email [email protected], phone 9228 5514, fax 9228 3102.
