Detailed Outline
Jeans for Genes Day is the main annual fundraising event for the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI). The CMRI, based at Westmead, is an independent organisation committed to unlocking the mysteries of disease. One in twenty children are born with some form of genetic fault, including leukaemia, muscular dystrophy, genetic defects and many other disorders. The scientists at the CMRI work to prevent these diseases before they occur in children, or where that is not possible, to develop better treatments. This year the CMRI celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The NSW Government supports Jeans for Genes Day. I would like to encourage all agencies to participate in the spirit of the event on Friday, 1 August 2008.
Further information is available at the Jeans for Genes website www.jeansforgenes.org.au.
