The Sydney 2009 World Masters Games will be held from 10-18 October 2009 at Sydney Olympic Park and venues around Sydney.

The World Masters Games is the worlds largest multi-sport event. Approximately 25,000 people are expected to participate in the 2009 Games, including up to 10,000 international competitors. The Games will build on the reputation of Sydney and New South Wales as a successful event host and tourist destination.

Agencies are asked to support the Games and recognise the significance of this global event to New South Wales. Similarly, agencies are asked to cooperate with Sydney World Masters Games Organising Committee (SWMGOC) in delivering this event.

Agencies are requested to encourage staff to participate in the Games and by doing so, recognise the importance of healthy and active lifestyles. Staff can register for the Games online at www.2009worldmasters.com (registrations close 31 July 2009).

For staff who wish to participate in the Games, agencies are encouraged to apply flexible work practices including allowing staff to access accumulated leave entitlements. Staff are not entitled to access special leave or Family and Community Services (FACS) leave. If agencies have any questions regarding staff leave entitlements during the Games, please contact your Industrial Relations contact officer in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

It is expected that frontline services will not be affected by staff participation in the Games.
