About
Keypoints
- The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will conduct a national Census on 9 August 2011 and expects to recruit approximately 10,000 temporary field staff within NSW.
- The NSW Government supports the census and encourages agencies to promote employee awareness of the recruitment opportunities and allow the release of employees to take up field positions wherever possible.
The ABS will conduct a national Census of population and housing on Tuesday night 9 August 2011.
The key to a good Census is the strength and quality of field staff and the ABS expects to be recruiting approximately 10,000 field staff for the temporary positions of District Manager, Area Supervisor and Collector. The indicative recruitment timetable schedules District Manager advertising during October 2010 and Area Supervisor and Collector advertising from February 2011.
The Census is of vital importance to all levels of government, who use the Census figures as the basis for many planning decisions, such as where to provide services for the elderly and young people.
I encourage NSW public sector agencies to support the Census by:
- promoting employee awareness for the 2011 Census and the field positions through agency communication channels
- releasing employees to take up field positions wherever possible and subject to operational requirements
- allowing the ABS to access regional networks and other workforce networks to communicate Census information.
Further information about the Census is available from the ABS contacts below.
