About
Action is currently being taken to assess the likely commitment to the Government in the repair and restoration of public buildings damaged by the earthquake at Newcastle last week.
In order to facilitate this assessment it would be appreciated if you could arrange for all Inner Budget Sector Departments/ organisations coming within your administration to provide a concise report on the extent of damage to buildings under their control together with an estimate of the cost in restoring such buildings.
Although appreciating that some buildings may not have been totally suited to the purpose for which they were used prior to the earthquake or could have been targeted for enhancement, it is not intended that restoration costs take account of these factors.
In the circumstances, it will be appreciated if the information outlined above can be submitted to the Director-General, Department of Public Works, Level 29, State office Block, Sydney - telephone 228 4589 by no later than 12 noon on Friday, 5th January, 1990.
Yours sincerely
Premier
