About
I refer to our discussions at Cabinet on 10 may 1990 concerning Sub-Committees of Cabinet.
You will recall it was agreed that in instances when Cabinet requires further consideration by Ministers of major policy issues, those matters are to be dealt with, as far as practicable, by the relevant Standing Committees of Cabinet.
Other Ad Hoc Committees of Cabinet are to be formally approved by Cabinet and are to operate under the same confidentiality principles as Cabinet.
To ensure that the Ad hoc Committees are formally recognised as part of the Cabinet process, they are to be serviced by The Cabinet Office entailing provision of a senior officer as Secretary to the Committee and the processing of all paper work by the Cabinet Secretariat.
Would you pleasebring this Memorandum to the notice of appropriate personnel within your administration.
