The Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee on Disability, the Hon. Virginia Chadwick, M.L.C., has raised with me the issue of emergency and evacuation procedures and disaster plans and the needs of people with disabilities.

Given the various portfolio responsibilities for public safety and that people with a range of disabilities are employed in the public sector, I am asking that administrations within your portfolio ensure that such procedures and plans have taken account of people with disabilities and that appropriate provisions are in place for their safety in emergency circumstances.
