About

As I announced recently, agreement has been reached with public sector unions for the adoption of new Guidelines for Part-Time Work in the NSW public service.

The major aims of these new guidelines are threefold:

  • to provide greater flexibility for both management and staff to utilise part-time work by reducing restrictions to allow a minimum of 10 hours per fortnight to be worked by part-time staff;
  • to make part-time work more equitable and attractive, by providing for full pro-rata entitlements and the choice of flexible working hours; and
  • to streamline administration of part-time work by providing a single set of guidelines to cover all forms of part-time work, rather than separate guidelines as at present.

A copy of the guidelines is attached for information. If further advice and assistance regarding these guidelines is needed, please contact Mr Kent Broadhead of the Personnel Policy Division, Office of Public Management on 228 5516 or Ms Libby Goggin of the Public Employment Industrial Relations Authority on 266 8227.

Yours sincerely

Nick Greiner MP
