Detailed Outline
I refer to Cabinet's approval of a program of regular statute law revision, and the ensuing preparation of a Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill for each Parliamentary Session.
To enable timely preparation of the next Bill to be introduced in the current sittings, it would be appreciated if proposals for inclusion in the Bill could be forwarded to the Parliamentary Counsel by 31 March 1993. Proposals should be expressed in narrative form, not in the form of draft amendments.
It should be noted that proposals that were forwarded for inclusion in the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) No. 3) Bill 1992 but not included in that Bill will be automatically carried forward for consideration for inclusion in the forthcoming Bill.
Your assistance is sought to ensure that any amendment proposed for inclusion in the program is no more than a minor policy changed and is absolutely non-controversial As you are aware, the program should receive bipartisan support, and amendments likely to cause controversy are inappropriate to it.
Your further assistance is sought in providing the name and telephone number of a contact officer.
It is the responsibility of each administration promoting amendments to arrange for commencement of those amendments once the Bill has received Royal Assent.
