About
In May 1992 the former Premier, the Hon Nick Greiner, requested all Ministers to take steps to ensure that all official relations with the Master Builders Association of NSW were severed.
This action was taken in response to the findings of the Royal Commission Into the Building Industry that the MBA NSW had been involved in collusive tendering, had imposed 'special fees' on NSW Government projects without the Government's knowledge and had improperly used public funds granted for the MBA Group Apprenticeship Scheme.
Since that time negotiations have been conducted with the MBA in order to secure reform of that organisation and to ensure repayment of Government funds.
These negotiations have now successfully concluded and I am happy to -announce that official relations between the Government and the Association may now resume.
Yours sincerely
John Fahey
Premier
