Description
Superseded by C2000-14Detailed Outline
This Memorandum advises on the arrangements for wage negotiations in the NSW public sector.
It is important, particularly over the next 12 months, that NSW public sector wage claims are closely monitored.
Ministerial Offices should not become involved in wage negotiations. The responsibility for wage negotiations is with NSW public sector organisations in the context of the Government's employee relations policies. Before organisations enter into negotiations on wage matters they should contact the Premier's Department Ian Peters is available on telephone number (02) 9228 3530 for this purpose.
A central group has been formed including the Treasury, Department of Industrial Relations and Premier's Department to give advice on the negotiation parameters.
The central group will need to be informed on matters such as the:
- recent history of wage settlements for the occupation or organisation;
- claim as compared to current arrangements;
- any preliminary assessment as to the merits of the claim in the context of the NSW Public Sector Wages Policy; and
- implications of the claim beyond the occupation or organisation.
Ministers are requested to ensure that these arrangements are fully observed within their portfolios.
Andrew Refshuge, MP
Acting Premier
Minister for Health, and
