Detailed Outline
As you may be aware, I have established a Major Events Evaluation Committee under the Chairmanship of Tourism New South Wales to develop a whole of Government approach to maximise the tourism, economic and cultural benefits of these events to the State.
To assist in coordinating this important task, it is essential that the Committee is aware of major events that Government agencies initiate or support, either logistically or financially.
The Committee is particularly concerned with events which require a Government contribution of $100,000 or more. However, the amount of financial assistance may not necessarily reflect the significance of the event and, even though, the financial contribution is small, the event may still be substantial because of its impact on the State.
Furthermore, I wish to avoid duplication in the Government's consideration of the provision of assistance to major event proponents. Consequently, it would be appreciated if you could arrange for agencies coming within your administration to advise John Allen, Manager, Special Events, Tourism NSW of any requests for assistance as soon as they are received. In relation to the supply of general major event information, it will be required in the attached format on a quarterly basis. Nil returns will be required.
The information should be sent to Mr Allen on hard copy and on disk.
