Description
updated by C2003-02 (business continuity plans)Detailed Outline
On 31 December, 2000, the last of the Y2K dates of concern in 2000 passed without incident. While some commentators predicted problems in 2001, the fact that every other milestone has passed almost without incident, suggests that it is an appropriate time to formally wind up the Y2K project.
However, I ask that Ministers take steps to ensure that the main legacy of the project, the agency business continuity plans, are maintained and updated as a normal part of agency operations. Each plan should ensure that agency services to the community are maintained in the event of any impact, including environmental hazards, loss of utilities supply or failure of technology.
The successful roll-out of the Y2K project meant that an appropriate defensive strategy was in place to prevent major disruption to services. That all systems and utilities were largely unaffected by the Y2K phenomenon is due to the considerable planning, maintenance work and upgrading of technology that took place as part of the project. The efforts of all those involved are to be commended.
