The membership of the Committee includes the Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW), War Widows Guild, the City of Sydney, Local Government and Shires Association, and a select number of NSW public agency Chief Executive Officers.

Detailed Outline

On 25 May 2010, I established the NSW Centenary of Anzac Commemoration Committee. The Committee is chaired by former NSW Deputy Premier The Honourable John Watkins with The Honourable Peter Collins AM QC as deputy chair. The membership of the Committee includes the Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW), War Widows Guild, the City of Sydney, Local Government and Shires Association, and a select number of NSW public agency Chief Executive Officers.

The Committee has prepared a submission to the Commonwealth’s announced National Commission on the Commemoration of the ANZAC Centenary (2014-2018). The submission can be found at www.veterans.nsw.gov.au.

The Committee is preparing a detailed report to the NSW Government by 31 May 2011 outlining a program of commemorative, educational and community awareness activities in the lead-up to and during the Centenary.

Consultation by the Committee is being undertaken with NSW Government agencies, ex-service organisations, descendants’ organisations, schools, Local Councils, community organisations and other stakeholders to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to share their ideas.

The work of the Committee will ensure each generation continues to honour the legacy of Australia’s military history, especially the formative impact ANZAC experiences had on a young nation in cities and regions.

I am seeking submissions from NSW Government agencies outlining how they might commemorate the Centenary of Anzac. Submissions should identify the opportunity for enhancement or theming of existing government activities or programs as well as suggesting fresh ideas and approaches to commemorating the Centenary throughout NSW. Opportunities for cross portfolio partnerships could also be considered when providing submissions.

To meet the commitments of the Committee submissions from agencies should be received by Friday 11 February 2011.

Submissions should be forwarded to:
