The Strategic Management Framework and the Strategic Management Calendar have been updated for 2006-07. The Framework and Calendar are whole-of-government initiatives and were updated after consultation with relevant agencies, including NSW Treasury, The Cabinet Office, Community Relations Commission, the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care, Department of Commerce, Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability, Department of Environment and Conservation and the Department of Lands.

The Framework guides agencies in service delivery planning, resource allocation and performance management by outlining the broad strategic imperatives and legislation that affect all agencies within the NSW public sector, as well as requirements which need to be considered when agencies undertake their corporate and strategic planning. Reference to relevant tools and guides are included, where appropriate.

The Calendar provides a succinct guide to the main planning, budgeting and reporting processes and requirements over the financial year, on a month-by-month basis.

The 2006-07 update of the Framework and Calendar contains essential information on key NSW Government legislation, policies, resources and reporting requirements, including an overview of the recently announced NSW State Plan. The Framework and Calendar are important resources for the NSW public sector. Agencies should ensure that staff are aware of these tools by, for example:

• advising all staff about the 2006-7 update of the Framework/Calendar and where both can be accessed
• having a link from your agency's intranet to the on-line Framework and Calendar
• including information about the Framework and Calendar in inductions and training updates.

The word versions (And PDF form) of the 2006-07 Framework and Calendar are attached. The on-line and PDF versions of the Framework and Calendar can be accessed from the homepage of the Premier's Department website. Also available is a word version of the Calendar which can be customised for internal use within agencies.

It is expected that the Framework will be updated throughout the financial year. Those wishing to be notified via email of Framework updates should forward their details to [email protected]. Feedback is also encouraged via this email address on the usability and other features of the updated website.
