About

The NSW Public Sector Wages Policy 2011 applies to all public sector agencies other than State Owned Corporations – including Public Service Departments, other Divisions of the Government Service and independent statutory bodies. This Memorandum has been updated, refer to M2012-04 for further details. This Memorandum has superseded Memorandum M2007-12 NSW Public Sector Wages Policy 2007.

The NSW Public Sector Wages Policy 2011 applies to all public sector agencies other than State Owned Corporations – including Public Service Departments, other Divisions of the Government Service and independent statutory bodies.

The policy sets out the guaranteed minimum conditions of employment for public sector employees regarding parental leave, superannuation, long service or extended leave, annual leave, sick leave, public holidays and part time work entitlements.

The policy describes the process that agencies must follow when dealing with proposed changes to the wages or conditions of employment of public sector employees. Agencies should refer to the detail of the policy whenever considering such changes, whether or not they are to be included in formal industrial instruments.

Proposals to increase remuneration or other conditions of employment that do not increase employee related costs by more than 2.5 per cent per annum may be approved by the Wages Policy Taskforce convened by the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Increases in remuneration or other conditions of employment that increase employee related costs by more than 2.5 per cent per annum can only be considered where sufficient employee related cost savings have been achieved to fully offset the increased employee related costs and where this has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Expenditure Review.

Agencies should contact the Industrial Relations unit in the Department of Premier and Cabinet when contemplating changes to the wages or conditions of public sector employees.
