About

I am writing to advise you that the SES Guidelines have been comprehensively updated and are available on the Premier's Department internet site under our Publications section (Publications > Senior Executive Service)

The first online version of the SES Guidelines was launched in 1998 and since then there have been a number of periodic updates. In developing these revised Guidelines a Reference Group consisting of nominated officers from a cross section of public sector agencies was established. The Reference Group has provided the Public Employment Office with valuable advice resulting in a comprehensive and user friendly online document.

The revised SES Guidelines provide comprehensive advice on the legislative and policy framework for the employment of officers in the Chief and Senior Executive Service. The Guidelines provide a reliable source of advice for agency Human Resource Managers, SES Administrators and SES officers themselves.

A major feature of the revised edition is the hyperlinked references to source documents including Premier's Memoranda and Premier's Department Circulars.

The 2005 edition also contains sample documents, references, and in key policy areas a "Frequently Asked Questions" feature that provides clear explanations of the legislative and policy basis for resolving common executive employment issues.

I encourage HR practitioners, SES Administrators and SES officers alike to access the latest version online so that reference is being made to current policies about executive employment issues.

Regular updating of the SES Guidelines will occur so that they accurately reflect the current policy position on executive employment arrangements.

A.S. Smith
Acting Director-General
