Our colleague the Attorney-General has drawn to my attention that on a number of occasions over the past 12 months the Solicitor-General, and sometimes the Crown Solicitor, have been called upon to give an opinion in relation to the statutory or contractual rights of a Minister or public authority where the opinion is required to satisfy a contractual obligation.

In Memorandum 1992-15 departments and authorities were advised that the use of Comcars by NSW Government organisations was to be avoided because the Department of Transport and Comcars were in dispute over the refusal of the Commonwealth to comply with requirements of the NSW law covering hire car services to the public.

The contractual arrangement between Traveland and the New South Wales Government for the provision of air travel reservation services has now run its term and the requisite written notice has been given to Traveland of the State's intention to withdraw from the present arrangement.

The NSW Grain Corporation Ltd was privatised on lst October, this year, but the organisation has drawn to attention that it has continued to receive large quantities of publications, circulars and memoranda from many Government departments and authorities, which are no longer of any relevance to it as a private company.
